Could you be an Outdoors Mentor?

Outdoors Great Southern is seeking volunteers to provide support and basic instruction in a variety of outdoor recreation activities for community participation programs such as Kids Adventure Club and/or the Adults Adventure Network.

The outdoor mentors share their knowledge and skills in the outdoors by becoming Volunteer Assistant Instructors to assist in the delivery of outdoor recreation programs to children and adults.

The mentors provide basic group management and supervision, ensuring all participants are included and understand the topics. Mentors may also participate in outdoor activities such as bushwalking, mountain biking, sailing, camping or similar. Training will be provided where needed.

Both participation programs run for the whole of the year, starting in February 2022. Kids and adults programs are run separately.

Kids Adventure Club: Programs are delivered at Camp Quaranup and other locations in the Albany area. Volunteers must be available on a Saturday or Sunday during each school term 2022; and:

  • Be comfortable working with others, including children of primary school age;
  • Have experience supervising children, preferably in an outdoor activity environment;
  • Want to learn new skills and share their own skills with others;
  • Be willing to volunteer weekends, most likely Sundays.

Volunteers will receive an induction, on-site training and supervision, and Personal Protective Equipment. A Working With Children’s Check and National Police Clearance are essential.
