Outdoors Great Southern recently partnered with Albany Primary School to construct Albany’s first mountain bike trail loop on school grounds with the help of community volunteers.

With the explosion in participation in mountain biking (MTB) as a recreational activity, the track is a popular addition to the school’s outdoor facilities.

Outdoors Great Southern Trail Maintenance Supervisor Brett Pengelley said the not-for-profit organisation was delighted to facilitate and deliver the construction of the infrastructure.

School and community volunteers, including Albany Mountain Bike Club, gathered to get construction underway in late March. The track was officially opened on 19 May with up to 100 kids on bikes testing out the new track.

The trail project is jointly funded through Connecting Schools Grants; a grant program led by the Your Move team at the Department of Transport, and the Department of Education. The project was initiated by Albany Primary School’s P+C, parents, students and staff as a way of promoting active transport.
