Outdoors Great Southern’s Overnight Hike Program for women saw 10 participants take to the Bibbulmun Track, indulging a love of the outdoors, learning new skills and making new friends.
The Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries-supported Introduction to Overnight Hiking for Women course was a memorable experience for the group – especially spending the night at Torbay Hut surrounded by quendas (southwestern brown bandicoots).
Skills Development Officer Andy Percy said, “For many of these women, it was their first time overnight on the trail and their enjoyment was clear. In the lead up to the hike, the women undertook a First Aid Course and completed a workshop on trail cooking, packing for comfort, what to wear, sleeping arrangements including types of shelters, and personal safety and hygiene. We are looking forward to running another program in 2022.”
